My Watch, My Tower!

Oh Lord, I have just about had it, everything that could possibly go wrong has gone wrong and I can hardly see my way through this situation. My soul is sick within me and I can’t go on any more.

This must be how David felt when things went horribly wrong for him. Speaking of David, how did he overcome? Yes! I remember, when he came back from battle and met disaster (the same way I got home and discovered that I’ll be homeless, jobless and kicked out of university for lack of tuition fees by this time next week), his wives had been taken away, his village had been trashed. To top it up, his men wanted to stone him.

What did David do?

‘...But David encouraged himself in the Lord.’ (1 Samuel 30: 6)

Lord how do I encourage myself in you? Let me search the scriptures. It’s 2:00am now and I can’t sleep anyway, so speak to me Lord.
Let’s see…..

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. (Joshua 1:8)

So, to make my way prosperous and have good success I must meditate on God’s word? O.k., what else can I find in the word?

‘If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you’ (John 15:7)

So if God’s words abide in me and I abide in Him, I get whatever I ask for?
Lord, it’s obvious to me that your word is very important, but I’m still missing something, I need more Lord, I need that ‘word in due season’ for this situation, how do I get it Lord?

Son!

Lord?

Open up your bible to Habakkuk 2:1

‘I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved’

My watch, stand upon my watch and set me upon the tower?

Son, where is your watch? What did the writer mean by ‘my watch’?

In prayer!?, my watch is in prayer! I mean that’s very obvious Lord, you know ‘watch and pray?’ You can’t watch if you’re not praying!

And the tower? What happens on a tower?

You get a picture of things around and beyond?

Yes son, you get a true picture of things on a tower, you can see further into the night. So, the watchman is able to look and give a report of what is happening.

Lord what you’re saying is that the true picture of my situation is revealed on the watchtower and the watchtower is in the place of prayer.

Exactly son, your watch tower is in your prayer closet and your watch is the time that has been appointed unto you to meet with me, when you’re in your closet, you set yourself upon the tower, ME, and see the true picture of things, SEE WHAT I SEE. Receive divine wisdom, knowledge and understanding for the situation. See verse 2.

‘And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it’

So I must always write down what you have revealed to me on the tower, meditate on it and eventually run with it?

And verse 3?

‘For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry’.

Yes Lord I see, sometimes it may look as if the vision will not come to pass, it may take time, I might even want to give up on it, but you are saying that it will not be late, but it will come at the appointed time, the time that you have chosen. I must wait for it and not grow weary, after all if I have set myself on you, I am waiting on you and those that wait upon the Lord shall not grow weary.

Now read verse 4.

‘Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith’

Lord this sounds like me, in fact this is me. I feel disappointed and sick within me, but I must not be moved by what I feel, as the just shall live by faith. Faith! Yes Lord, faith. Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. I need your word desperately Lord, if I am to have enough faith to go through this.

Remember Joshua 1:8, son. My word must not depart out of your mouth, it is the very thing that shapes your world, but that is a lesson for another day my dear. We’ll talk more about this tomorrow, Good night child, looking forward to meeting with you during your watch.

Thank you Lord, whatever would I do without your lessons, thank you for your word, help me to keep it in my heart and practice it daily. Good night Lord! I love you.

I love you too son.
